AN/ALR-69(V)-2 RHAW
RADAR SYSTEM MODIFICATION FOR TAMIYA MCDONNELL DOUGLAS F4C-D PHANTOM II
One of the last modifications to the venerable McDonnell Douglas F4D Phantom II, the most common variant operating with the Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve units as well as the regular United States Air Force from 1977 to late 1990, was the installation of the AN/ALR-69(V)-2 RHAW radar system. Purpose designed to maximize the capability of the F4D, the six sensor nodes on the chin fairing and two sensor nodes on the tail cone covering the parabrake compartment led to this system being referred to unofficially and not so complimentary as the "herpes mod".
This accurately and finely detailed 4 piece resin assembly kit captures every nuance of the AN/ALR-69(V0-2 RHAW Modification. Included is a complete solid resin nose assembly as shown which, combined with the weight of an after-market resin cockpit may act as sufficient nose weight to balance your model on its tricycle landing gear. If not heavy enough on its own, it's easily drilled to accept lead weights and a little 2-part epoxy. An additional chin fairing avionics pod is included for those who wish to use the polystyrene kit nose cone to allow for modeling the radar housing open to show off detail in that area. This kit also includes modified tail cone with sensor nodes, modified TACAN antenna and housing, reference photos of a real McDonnell Douglas F4D Phantom II in Air National Guard service, assembly instructions and a decal sheet with appropriate stenciling as shown.
